On December 2nd, artists under YG Entertainment attended a press conference held in Hong Kong to officially announce the collaboration between YG Entertainment and Tencent’s QQ Music.

““WHO IS NEXT : WIN” (“WIN”), a survival show to YG Entertainment’s new boy band, recorded the “best one minute” in its viewership, with the appearance of YG Family members who gathered to judge the first performance battle between Team A and Team B.
The father and son of the Smiths family showed special affection for YG Entertainment.
Will Smith, who was at the Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeouido with his son for the press conference of “After Earth” (directed by Night Shyamalan) on May 7 said, “if you could make May 7 a public holiday or Willy Day, then I will visit Korea on the day every year.”
Will Smith and his son Jaden who landed at Kimpo Airport on May 5 for the promotion of the new film first made their appearance on the 7th at the press conference. In the evening of the same day they held a red carpet event at Seoul Yongdeongpo’s Time Square to meet their Korean fans. On the 6th, the father and son had a free day to tour around the country, which included visiting YG Entertainment to spend some quality time with BigBang, 2NE1 and other artists.
“After arriving in Korea we visited YG Entertainment yesterday. We met with a lot of artists including G-Dragon. The Korea we see from overseas is amazing and artistic. And it is full of creativity. I wanted to visit because Korean women are beautiful,” said Will Smith, and joked, “Korea feels like Psy’s ‘mother father gentleman’”.
His son commented, “I think BigBang, G-Dragon and 2NE1 are awesome. I think I can get something really creative working with them.”
The Smiths, when asked what they would do if the movie becomes a big success in Korea, mentioned the YG family.
“If the movie becomes a hit, I will come to Korea to sing with Psy. I will sing ‘mother father gentleman.’ I’ll release an album with him,” said Will Smith. His son added, “if the movie becomes a hit first I will move out of home. And I will work on an album with G-Dragon. Or I think the Smiths and YG Family can collaborate to produce an album. You can expect us to come back for more music related activities.”
The film “After Earth” is blockbuster film based on an adventurous fictional story of Cypher Raige (Will Smith) and Kitai (Jaden Smith) being stranded by a crash landing on Earth, 1,000 years after the cataclysmic event. Will Smith also participated in the making of the film. This is the first time the Smiths appeared in a movie together as the main characters in 7 years since “The Pursuit of Happyness” in 2006. The movie will be released on May 30 in Korea as one of the first countries in the world.
CEO Yang Min Suk of YG Entertainment met with Aurora World CEO Choi Young Il at the YG office building on April 10 to sign a licensing contract.
The contract will bring together YG Entertainment′s K-Pop content and Aurora World′s merchandise production and licensing expertise. The two companies aim to add YG′s content to a variety of new merchandise areas, then market and sell the goods to the world.
YG Entertainment stated, “This contract signifies the crossing of paths between YG content and Aurora World’s global character products and licensing know-hows. We plan to explore various types of product we have not tried yet through the global 50,000-client network, selling and marketing products across the world. This will be the first meaningful step in developing Korea’s K-Pop influence through a systematic product commodity.”
Aurora World is a character marketing company which has recently been promoting its self-produced animation Yoohoo and Friends with Happy Meals in 6,000 McDonalds branches, scattered throughout 40 European countries.
YG Entertainment and Aurora World′s new partnership is expected to bring about a new wind in contents marketing, and expand the global K-Pop boom to a successful merchandising business.
Together with their recent contract with Asiana Airlines, and now Aurora, YGE looks to be all about expanding their brand in 2013. Which could mean YG Family World Tour may actually really happen this year.
Aurora World develops, produces, and sells designs based on collected data from its worldwide offices and distributors. Aurora was recognized as third in the category of Brand Awareness in USA Gift Beat. Aurora products are sold through more than 25,000 retail outlets worldwide.
Bloomberg recently gave the stock favorable coverage, because of it’s ability to educe the percentage of sales devoted to selling, general and administrative costs thus increasing their net profits.
All and all this seems to be a great opportunity to globalize for YGE.
